Know What You Don't Know

As humans, we do activities in our everyday lives. We travel, learn, explore, and stuff. But after all these activities, we get tired, and go home. The place where we really belong. It is where we eat, where we bathe, where we sleep, and  stay whenever it's cold or hot. But, do you know everything about that place and the things inside it? You might say yes, but it's a total NO.When you bathe or eat, do you know that the substances you use or intake are actually compounds? Probably no. Here's a blog for you to know what's the real thing about the stuff in your house. 

          Acetone, alcohol, , LPG, and kerosene are some examples of the stuff in our houses that we use in our everyday lives. We know their main uses because we frequently use them. But we definitely don’t know everything about them COMPLETELY.

         

Acetone

          Acetone is a colorless, volatile, flammable liquid that is commonly used in removing cuticle in our nails. It has a chemical formula CH₃COCH₃, wherein it works as a solvent for cuticle but can also dry oils (including your skin’s natural oil). Acetone do not dry on your skin, they evaporate easily.

Tip: You can better put olive oil first before removing your nail polish so it can take that oil rather than your natural skin oil.

Alcohol

          Alcohol is also a colorless, volatile, flammable liquid that is usually used in disinfecting wounds and sanitizing. It has a chemical formula CH₃CH₂OH (Ethanol), having -114.7^oC as melting point and 78.5^o C as boiling point. The reason why it can disinfect or remove bacteria from a certain area of the skin is because they can evaporate quickly, without leaving any residue; and for they are capable of dissolving lipids, which make them effective against lipid- wrapped viral cells such as HIV and Hepatitis A.

 

 

Ethyl Alcohol

Vinegar  

          Vinegar, with a chemical formula of CH₃COOH, is a liquid substance used to make dishes in our home a bit of a sour. It is also used in cleaning our kitchen sinks and appliances together with baking soda. It is mainly a dilute aqueous solution of acetic acid. It is a product of two biochemical processes namely: Alcoholic fermentation and acid fermentation before it end up with vinegar. But, be careful of taking vinegar all alone, for they can burn your throat. Better dip some of your snacks with it and enjoy your sour adventure!

 

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)

          Liquefied Petroleum Gas or widely known as LPG, with a chemical formula of CH₃CH₂CH₃, wherein propane, butane, propylene, butadiene, butylene, and isobutylene are the gases that fall under the ‘LPG’ name. It is commonly used for cooking our raw food, and boiling water for our coffee breaks. The propane content of LPG makes water boil at 100^oC becoming gas (steam). But in contrast, LPG boils at   -42^oC becoming gas vapor.

Kerosene

          Kerosene having a chemical formula of CH₃CH₂CH₂CH₂OH is a viscous, volatile, and flammable substance. It is commonly used in vehicles, and lamp lighting at home. Kerosene is poisonous when inhaled or ingested. It is also not recommended to be handled by children because of its flammability that may cause fire. So, we should tell the kids everything about it when they’re still young to keep our houses safe.

         

Trivia: Kerosene can save trees. So burn Kerosene rather than charcoal.

We can actually discover the given information above with our selves. We can discover its complexity without knowing these facts. But always remember, it is still better to be safe than sorry. Knowing every single thing earlier is an advantage for a healthy living.
